What you'll study

The course begins with animation fundamentals and pre-visual narrative, progressing to character acting, character animation, motion graphics, creature animation and visual effects. Students learn modelling, lighting and rendering workflows and build detailed models from scratch. Teaching emphasises creating believable movement and covers both 3D character work and different stylistic approaches; final-year projects centre on producing a showreel for employment. Instruction includes demonstrations, group seminars, 1:1 tutor feedback, video lectures, peer review and live briefs, with formative tasks and asynchronous video commentary from staff.

Entry requirements

Entry is through UCAS (code CMSA) with a tariff range of 88–112. The course is delivered full time at High Wycombe and has a September 2027 intake; an online study pathway is also offered.

Career prospects

The course aims to make graduates career-ready by focusing on industry-relevant tasks and producing a professional showreel. Students work on live briefs, collaborate with peers on other creative courses, and benefit from industry-experienced lecturers and guest sessions. Facilities such as motion-capture studios, Faceware, a renderfarm, VR, stop-motion studio and up-to-date cameras support production work that mirrors junior roles in film, TV, commercials and games.
