What you'll study

The programme combines theory, law and policy with practice. Core topics explored across modules include ethics and values, society and social work, frameworks of legislation and policy in England, professional self‑awareness and emotional regulation, and the lived experiences of service users. Learning is designed to link directly to placement experience so students apply theoretical knowledge in practice.

Practical learning features two placements where students must work the agency hours and receive ongoing supervision from a Practice Educator or Onsite Supervisor as well as academic support.

Entry requirements

• Typical UCAS tariff: 104–128 for the three‑year full‑time route; 32–56 for the Foundation Year route. UCAS points can come from A levels, T levels, BTEC or Access to HE in relevant subjects.
• GCSE English Language at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent such as Level 2 Functional Skills.
• Social work applicants should evidence relevant paid or voluntary experience; all applications considered individually.
• Successful applicants attend a Selection Event that includes a written test (to assess written English), a group activity (verbal English) and an individual interview. Health, criminal, employment and personal history information is collected but not disclosed to interviewers; disclosures requiring further exploration are assessed separately and offers may be conditional.
• Admissions require a clear occupational health assessment, a declaration of suitability for social work and satisfactory DBS checks.

Career prospects

On completing the degree and registering with Social Work England, graduates are prepared for qualifying social work roles across children and families or adult services and can seek employment locally, nationally or abroad. The course emphasises transferable skills employers value — communication, teamwork, problem solving, analysis and evaluative thinking — alongside the professional practice experience from placements.
