What you'll study

Modules blend practical technique, production skills and critical reflection. Assessment is varied and practical rather than exam‑based, including solo and group performances, presentations, written project proposals and reflective writing. Teaching methods include workshops, seminars, lecturer‑led production sessions, assessed performances (live and for camera) and study trips to professional theatre.

• Actor Training and Theory (20 credits): introduces methods for developing character and performing from text, engaging psychological, analytical and imaginative techniques applied to physical expression.
• Acting Techniques 1 and 2 (20 credits): foundational vocal and physical skills, embodiment and movement progressing toward choreographed approaches.
• Introduction to Production (20 credits): practical skills for staging scripted work in a studio, translating workshops into audience performances.
• Movement for Screen (20 credits): investigation of physical performance for camera, exploring body, time, space, dynamics and cinematic composition.
• Performer Training for Stage and Screen (20 credits): study and practice of key practitioner models and their theoretical contexts.
• Contemporary Issues and Creative Practice (20 credits): research and reflection on global debates (e.g. sustainability, politics) that inform creative positions.
• Year 2 (sample): Acting Techniques 3 builds on Level 4 voice and production modules to extend technique and application.

Entry requirements

A typical offer requires a UCAS tariff of 88–112, with a minimum of two full A‑levels (or equivalent such as BTEC, T level or Access to HE in a relevant subject). GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 are typically required. Every applicant is considered individually; suitable candidates are invited to audition and interview. Auditions include a 15‑minute discussion of your work and may include a one‑hour workshop with other applicants. The interview will probe your commitment, ability to discuss your practice and to work with others. Applicants must list all qualifications on their application and provide copies when requested.
