The program covers foundational and professional nursing topics including anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, together with applied clinical skills developed in IWU’s Fortune Simulation Lab and through periodic visits to real clinical sites. Entry requirements

Progression through the Pre-licensure Division requires meeting three minimum academic standards: earning a grade of C or higher in all NUR courses, maintaining a nursing GPA of at least 2.75 (NUR courses only), and a cumulative IWU GPA of at least 2.75. Failure to meet any requirement results in nursing academic probation.

Probation and dismissal policies are explicit: one probationary period equals one semester and two probationary periods are permitted. Dismissal from pre-licensure nursing occurs after failure of three NUR courses, failure of the same NUR course twice, or failure to remove probation by the end of the second probation period. Readmission after dismissal has specified criteria including a three-year waiting period, recent completion of sciences within five years (or relevant work experience), 12 credit hours at an accredited college with a 2.75 GPA, an interview with the SON dean or designee, and possible auditing or repeating of courses per IWU policy.

Requirements during probation include activities such as registration in remediation courses (for example EQUIP NUR 211 if required), repeating failed NUR courses, meeting with advisors and the Nursing Educational Resource Specialist, following a Plan for Academic Student Success, and completing 2 credit hours of Professional Transitions (NUR 476) in the final year.

Career prospects

Graduates complete coursework and clinical experiences designed to prepare them to seek RN licensure and work as registered nurses. Potential employers listed by the program include hospitals, private medical practices, eldercare facilities and consulting roles; the degree is positioned as a foundation for clinical practice or further graduate study.
