What you'll study

Coursework develops both art-making skills and classroom practice. Major topics include lesson design, mastery teaching, student motivation, classroom management, learning styles and multicultural perspectives. Students study the elements and principles of design through individual and collaborative projects, and explore ideation, interpretation and disciplinary literacy. Entry requirements

Admission into the Teacher Education Program requires a formal application and multiple program assessments (interview; reading and writing on-demand). Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in each teaching major and in major coursework. Professional education courses must be passed above C-; any course with a grade of C- or lower must be repeated. Students must apply for admission to student teaching a year before their student teaching semester.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for certification-aligned teaching roles in public and private K–12 schools. Typical career paths listed by the program include elementary, middle and secondary art teacher positions.
