What you'll study

The programme begins with a foundation year that builds academic study skills and introduces core concepts needed for undergraduate business study. Typical foundation modules cover study skills, numeracy for business, introduction to economics, basic accounting principles, and communication for business.

After the foundation year you progress to the three-year BA Business and Management programme. Core modules across the degree commonly include:

• Principles of Management and Organisation – fundamentals of organisational behaviour, leadership and decision-making.
• Marketing – key concepts in marketing strategy, consumer behaviour and market research techniques.
• Accounting and Finance – introductory financial accounting, management accounting and corporate finance topics.
• Economics for Business – micro- and macroeconomic concepts applied to business environments.
• Operations and Project Management – process management, supply chains and project planning methods.
• Quantitative Methods and Research Skills – statistics, data analysis and methods for business research.
• Strategy and Business Policy – frameworks for strategic analysis and competitive positioning.
• Business Ethics and Sustainability – corporate responsibility, ethical decision-making and sustainable business practice.

In later stages you will typically choose optional modules to specialise or broaden your skill set (for example human resource management, entrepreneurship, international business, digital innovation). Most students also complete a substantial final-year project or dissertation, or undertake a placement year or shorter work-related learning module where available.

Entry requirements

The foundation year route is intended for applicants who do not yet meet the standard entry requirements for direct entry to the three-year degree. Typical applicants include those with non-traditional qualifications, limited subject-specific preparation, or international qualifications that require additional academic preparation.

Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate: an appropriate level of prior education or equivalent experience; competence in English and numeracy; and the motivation to study at undergraduate level. International applicants will normally need to meet the university's English language requirements through recognised tests or qualifications. The University’s admissions team can advise on suitable qualifications and any additional documentary evidence that may be needed.
