What you'll study

The MDiv is structured as a 432-point degree. Key structural requirements are:

• At least 48 points in one biblical or associated language.
• 120–144 points of Postgraduate Foundational units, which must include 48 points in Field B, 48 points in Field C and 24 points in Field D.
• 192–240 points of Postgraduate Elective units, which must include at least 24 points in each of Fields B, C and D.
• Either a capstone unit worth at least 24 points or the RQ9748M Minor Thesis.

ALC typically offers postgraduate units in 24‑ and/or 18‑point forms; a standard full‑time semester is 72 points. Units for scheduled delivery are published (see ALC postgraduate units scheduled in 2026). Students may discuss enrolling in a minor thesis (equivalent to two units) to prepare for higher degree by research.

Entry requirements

Admission requires successful completion of an undergraduate degree. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirements specified in the Admissions Policy. ALC operates credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) policies.

Career prospects

Graduates leave with advanced knowledge of theological sources, terminology and concepts, and develop research, analytical and communication skills applicable to divinity and related fields. The programme emphasises interpretive and critical reflection with attention to historical and contemporary issues, preparing students for professional ministry roles, supervised ministry projects, or further academic study where a minor thesis at the required standard can lead to admission to higher degree by research.
