What you'll study

The degree comprises 12 standard units (288 points). Students take 3 Foundational units across three broad theological areas and 5 postgraduate Elective units. For the capstone of the award students choose either a Capstone unit of at least 24 points or the Minor Thesis (RQ9748M, 48 points), with remaining requirements made up by further postgraduate-level units. Units scheduled for delivery in 2026 are listed by the College; some units may be delivered by other University of Divinity Colleges and some individual units may not be available online.

Entry requirements

Admission requires successful completion of an undergraduate degree. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirements set out in the Admissions Policy. Australian Lutheran College operates credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) under its Credit Policy.

Career prospects

Graduates finish with advanced knowledge of theological sources, concepts and methods, mastery of research principles and enhanced skills in interpretation and critical reflection. The program is designed to support professional practice and further academic study; it enables articulation of theological insights to specialist and non-specialist audiences and the application of hermeneutical skills through a substantial research-based project or capstone experience.
