What you'll study

The course comprises six standard postgraduate Foundational or Elective units totalling 144 points. Students may choose a mixture of units across multiple areas of divinity and associated disciplines or concentrate more intensively on one or two topics. Those preparing for a research pathway commonly include Research Methodologies (RQ9021C) and a Minor Thesis (RQ9748M) as part of their program. Unit offerings scheduled for delivery are published by ALC for each year.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree or a graduate certificate and either have completed the equivalent of 72 points of theological study at the University of Divinity or another recognised higher education provider, or have completed 144 points of study towards a Master’s award at the University of Divinity. Where an applicant’s first language is not English, English language proficiency requirements in the Admissions Policy apply. ALC applies credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) according to its Credit Policy.

Career prospects

Graduates gain advanced knowledge and research, analysis and communication skills relevant to further postgraduate study. The award provides a foundation for continued theological or philosophical study and helps develop abilities to apply interpretive skills and judgement—based on theory, practice and tradition—to contemporary issues. It is therefore suited to those aiming for research degrees or roles that require theological expertise and critical engagement with texts and concepts.
