What you'll study

The course comprises 16 standard units (288 points). Required components include:

• One unit of Old Testament
• One unit of New Testament
• One unit of Church History
• One unit of Systematic Theology
• Two units of Pastoral Theology and Ministry Studies
• Two additional units drawn from Field B (Biblical Studies) and/or Field C (Christian Thought and History)

The program also requires a further 144 points of study. Students who enter having completed a Diploma in Theology may receive reductions in required units. Unit schedules for delivery are published (ALC Level 1 and Level 2 scheduled units); additional units may be available. Some required pastoral studies units may not be available fully online.

Entry requirements

Entry requires successful completion of Year 12 in an Australian secondary school or the Diploma in Theology, or equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirements in the college Admissions Policy. The college operates credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) under its Credit Policy.

Career prospects

Graduates gain foundational skills for critical study of Christian texts, the ability to articulate and reflect on theological and scriptural knowledge, and apply this to ministry practice. The award develops analytical skills for forming and communicating theological arguments relevant to ministry tasks or worldview analysis, and equips students for culturally relevant service and practical engagement in support ministries and related contexts.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

The course is registered for FEE-HELP. It is available to domestic students and to overseas students studying online from their home country or already in Australia on a non-student visa that permits study; it is not open to overseas students on a student visa.
