What you'll study

The curriculum builds from fundamentals to advanced, applied topics. Early study covers risk and information management, security auditing and network security; later work expects you to apply learning in individual and team assignments and to complete a major project or extended independent study in the final year. Teaching includes lectures, tutorials, practical sessions and seminars, with problem-based learning and real-life case study assignments.

Entry requirements

A typical offer requires a UCAS tariff of 88–112 for direct entry to the three-year programme; a Foundation Year route is available with a typical tariff of 32–56. UCAS points can come from A levels, T levels, BTEC or Access to Higher Education in a relevant subject. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required and each application is assessed individually; applicants not meeting specified requirements may be offered the four-year programme with a Foundation Year.

The degree prepares students to work in roles that protect organisations, networks and systems from cyber-attack, with emphasis on applied technical skills and professional techniques used in industry. The course's industry links, lab-based practice and career support aim to help graduates pursue entry-level positions in cyber security, network and cloud security roles, security auditing, and related technical positions; the department and Careers service also support opportunities for placements, internships and local industry employment.
