What you'll study

The curriculum covers the nature, instruction, program administration and socio-emotional support of gifted learners, plus creativity-focused approaches and a supervised internship. Courses and credit weights are:

• EDIS 650 Nature and Needs of the Talented — 3 credits
• EDIS 651 Curriculum Development for the Talented — 3 credits
• EDIS 652 Development and Supervision of Programs for the Talented — 3 credits
• EDIS 653 Guidance and Counseling for the Talented — 3 credits
• EDIS 654 Creativity Studies for Teachers of the Talented — 3 credits
• EDIS 796 Internship in Talent Development Education — 3 credits (must be taken through Ashland University)

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a current Ohio teaching license to attach the endorsement. Completion of the OAE exam (053) is required, and candidates must have access to gifted students to complete the internship. Endorsement application is processed through the Ohio Department of Education (OH/ID).

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to teach gifted students, supervise and improve gifted programs, and provide leadership in K–12 gifted education in Ohio. The endorsement supports roles such as classroom teacher with gifted responsibilities, district gifted coordinator, or administrator overseeing gifted services. It can also serve as preparatory work for the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Talent Development Education.
