A four-year undergraduate programme that trains students in software design, development and maintenance with practical exposure to industry practices such as DevOps, cloud and full‑stack development. Suited to students who want hands‑on software engineering careers and internships leading into roles across development, operations and architecture.

What you'll study

The course builds from foundational computing and mathematics into applied software engineering topics and a final research project. Early years cover programming, computing mathematics and core IT topics; later years emphasise software architecture, DevOps, distributed and enterprise application development.

  • First year: foundation modules such as Introduction to Programming, Fundamentals of Computing, Mathematics for Computing and related IT basics.
  • Second year: software development, web & mobile application development, machine learning fundamentals, operating systems and systems administration.
  • Third year: software project management, DevOps, microservices, distributed systems and industrial training (internship).
  • Fourth year: comprehensive research project, trends in software engineering, enterprise application development and deep learning.

Semester modules explicitly listed for initial study include: IT1120 Introduction to Programming; IE1030 Data Communication Networks; IT1130 Mathematics for Computing; IT1140 Fundamentals of Computing; IT1160 Discrete Mathematics; IT1170 Data Structures and Algorithms; SE1010 Software Engineering; IT1150 Technical Writing.

Entry requirements

Local GCE A/L applicants need a minimum of three "S" passes in the Physical Sciences or Engineering Technology streams in one sitting, or three "S" passes in any stream plus a C pass for O/L Mathematics and completion of the SLIIT IT Bridging Programme (exemption if Information & Communication Technology was taken at A/L with O/L Mathematics C). Cambridge/Edexcel A/L entrants require three "D" passes in mathematics‑related subjects, or three "D" passes in other subjects plus a C in O/L Mathematics and completion of the IT Bridging Programme (similar exemption for IT/Computer Science A/L with O/L Mathematics C). Students must complete all modules up to Year 2 to progress into Year 3 and must pass the SLIIT Aptitude Test.

Graduates are prepared for roles across software development and related disciplines. Common job titles cited include Software Engineer, Full‑Stack Developer, DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, AI/ML Engineer and Solution Architect. The programme emphasizes practical skills and industry placements to support entry into local and global tech employers.
