A four-year honours degree that combines software development, systems administration, databases and networking with practical industry exposure. Suited to students who want both theoretical foundations and hands-on skills for IT roles across businesses, tech firms and infrastructure teams.

What you'll study

The programme progressively builds from fundamentals to advanced topics and practice over four years, with emphasis on applied work and certifications.

  • First year: Fundamentals of computing and IT, introduction to programming, mathematics for computing, data communication, data structures and software engineering basics.
  • Second year: Operating systems, database design, web and mobile technologies, system administration and artificial intelligence.
  • Third year: IT project management, business IT solutions, cloud computing, data analytics, enterprise applications and industrial training (industrial training is included).
  • Fourth year: Comprehensive research project, further industrial training, information security, IT policy and governance, software quality assurance and enterprise application development.
  • Sample semester modules (first year): IT1120 Introduction to Programming; IE1030 Data Communication Networks; IT1130 Mathematics for Computing; IT1140 Fundamentals of Computing. Semester 2 modules include IT1160 Discrete Mathematics; IT1170 Data Structures and Algorithms; SE1010 Software Engineering; IT1150 Technical Writing.

Entry requirements

Local GCE A/L applicants need a minimum of three "S" passes in the Physical Sciences or Engineering Technology streams in one sitting, or three "S" passes in any stream plus a "C" pass for O/L Mathematics and completion of the SLIIT IT Bridging Programme. Applicants with Information & Communication Technology at A/L and a "C" for O/L Mathematics are exempt from the bridging programme. Cambridge/Edexcel A/L entrants require a minimum of three "D" passes in mathematics-related subjects or three "D" passes in other subjects plus a "C" pass in O/L Mathematics and completion of the bridging programme; ICT/Computer Science A/L with O/L Mathematics "C" is exempt. Applicants must also pass the SLIIT aptitude test. (Medium of instruction: English.)
