What you'll study

The programme builds core cyber security foundations in the first year and advances to practical offensive and defensive techniques plus governance and forensics in the second year.

  • Semester 1: IT5010 Advanced Learning and Study Skills (2 credits); IE5012 Principles of Cyber Security (3); IE5022 Applied Network Security (4); IE5032 Information Security Risk Management and Audit (3); IE5042 Software Security (4).
  • Semester 2: IE5052 Applied Cryptography (4); IE5062 Information Security Management System (4); IE5072 Cyber Forensics & Incident Response (4); IT5090 Research Methods (3).

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • A 4-year BSc honours degree in Cyber Security or a relevant computing discipline from a recognised institution.
  • A 3-year BSc in Cyber Security or relevant computing degree plus at least one year of post-qualifying professional experience in a relevant field, if acceptable to the Institute.
  • A 4-year bachelor’s honours degree with sufficient computing-related modules plus at least one year of post-qualifying professional experience, if acceptable to the Institute.
  • A recognised qualification equivalent to a 4-year honours degree and/or membership via an academic route from a professional computing body, with a minimum of two years’ professional experience in a relevant field, if acceptable to the Institute.
