A two-year SLQF level 10 postgraduate degree delivered in English that combines advanced machine learning, deep learning, robotics and responsible AI with a project-led research component. Suited to computing graduates or professionals with relevant experience who want technical depth and industry-aligned skills for AI roles or further research.

What you'll study

The curriculum blends foundational mathematics and computing with specialised AI topics and a substantial research project. First-year core modules cover mathematics, machine learning, programming, agent-based systems, fundamentals of AI, deep learning, natural language processing, optimization and neuroscience/neurocomputing together with research methods. In the second year students undertake a research project and study computer vision, robotics, responsible AI and modern trends, with elective options such as advanced machine learning, cloud computing or big data.

  • Duration and delivery: 2 years, weekend schedule; intakes January and June; medium: English; SLQF Level 10.
  • First year (selected modules): IT5012 Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence (3 credits); IT5022 Fundamentals of Machine Learning (4); IT5032 Agent-Based Systems (3); IT5042 Programming for Artificial Intelligence (3); IT5052 Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (3); IT5062 Deep Learning (4); IT5090 Research Methods (3); IT5072 Natural Language Processing (3); IT5082 Optimization Methods (3); IT5092 Neuroscience & Neurocomputing (3).
  • Second year: Research project plus modules in Computer Vision, Robotics, Responsible AI, Modern Trends and elective choices in areas such as Advanced ML, Cloud Computing or Big Data.

Entry requirements

  • Bachelor of Science honours degree (4 years) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence from a recognised institution.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (3 years) in Computing, Engineering, Physical Science or Technology plus a minimum of one year of post-qualifying professional experience in a relevant field, as acceptable to the Institute.
  • Bachelor’s honours degree (4 years) covering sufficient computing-related modules plus a minimum of one year of relevant post-qualifying professional experience, as acceptable to the Institute.
  • A recognised qualification equivalent to a 4-year honours degree and/or membership via an academic route from a computing professional body, with a minimum of two years’ relevant professional experience, as acceptable to the Institute.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for technical and applied AI roles. The programme lists typical outcomes including Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, AI/ML Developer, AI Product Manager, Natural Language Processing Specialist, Computer Vision Specialist, AI Solutions Architect and Big Data Engineer. The degree can also be a pathway to doctoral study or international opportunities.
