The Marketing BA (Hons) at the University of Hull is a career-focused undergraduate degree that develops practical and analytical marketing skills across digital, consumer and strategic contexts. It suits students who want a combination of hands-on marketing practice, research-led theory and opportunities for placements or professional accreditation.

What you'll study

This honours degree covers the core disciplines of marketing alongside contemporary digital and analytics skills. Early modules typically introduce principles of marketing and consumer behaviour, marketing communications, and fundamentals of business and management. You will build on these with modules in digital marketing, social media strategy, brand management, pricing and product strategy, marketing research and marketing analytics.

The programme emphasises applied learning: you can expect live briefs with local organisations, group consultancy projects, and practical work using industry-standard digital and analytics tools. Research methods and a final-year independent project or dissertation give you the ability to design and evaluate marketing research. Optional modules often include international marketing, retail marketing, services marketing, advertising and public relations, and entrepreneurship. There are opportunities for a placement year, a short work placement, or study abroad to broaden practical experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have completed a recognised secondary or post-secondary qualification such as A-levels, BTEC National Diploma, Access to HE diploma or an international equivalent. Typical offers reflect a range of academic backgrounds, and the programme accepts a combination of qualifications. GCSEs in English language and mathematics (or recognised equivalents) are usually required or expected.

Applicants without conventional qualifications but with relevant work experience or vocational qualifications may be considered through the University’s alternative admissions routes. International students will need to demonstrate English language proficiency through an acceptable test or qualification. Selection is based on academic achievement, the personal statement and, where relevant, references; interviews are not normally required except in specific circumstances.

Career prospects

Graduates move into a broad range of marketing and commercial roles. Common entry-level positions include marketing assistant/executive, digital marketing specialist, social media coordinator, market researcher, brand assistant and sales or account management roles. With experience, graduates progress to roles such as marketing manager, brand manager, digital strategist or insight analyst.

The course also prepares students for graduate schemes in retail, FMCG, media and advertising, and for roles in public sector or third-sector communications. Many students pursue professional development through industry qualifications (for example with professional marketing bodies), or continue to postgraduate study in marketing, business management or research degrees.
