Master of Theology
A two-year (full-time) Master of Theology for students who already hold an undergraduate theology or ministry qualification. It deepens theological knowledge and research skills through advanced coursework and a substantial capstone or minor thesis, suited to those preparing for higher-level ministry, professional practice or further academic study.
What you'll study
The degree comprises 10 units (240 points). Study may include up to two postgraduate foundational units in any discipline, a choice between a capstone unit or the RQ9748M Minor Thesis (equivalent to two units), and other postgraduate units to complete the 10-unit requirement. Units scheduled for delivery are published by ALC; some units may be taught by other University of Divinity colleges. The program emphasises mastery of research principles and methods, advanced interpretation and critical reflection, and the application of theological and hermeneutical skills in a substantial research-based project or supervised ministry project.
Entry requirements
Admission requires successful completion of a Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Ministry, Master of Divinity or an equivalent theological qualification. A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma does not meet the entry requirement for this award. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirements set out in the Admissions Policy. ALC operates credit transfer and recognition of prior learning (RPL) policies.
Career prospects
Graduates leave the program with advanced knowledge of theological sources, concepts and research methods, and skills in interpretation, critical reflection and communication for specialist and non-specialist audiences. The course prepares students for professional roles in ministry, theological education and related fields, and for further study: those who complete a Research Essay to the required standard may be eligible to apply for higher degrees by research.

The course is registered for FEE-HELP and is available to both domestic and overseas students (CRICOS code 096387D). The majority of the course is offered online, though some individual units may not be available in that mode. Prospective students should discuss study options, possible enrolment in the minor thesis, and credit transfer/RPL with a course advisor.
